Drop City, Newcastle
at 20 South Street
The reading group is a project initiated by Nadia Hebson, an open reading project that explores the subjective female voice in literature.
Moving to Drop City, The Reading Group’s last event before the summer pause will be a screening of Delphine Seyrig’s 1981 film Be Pretty and Shut Up aka Sois belle et tais-toi
In this revealing work Seyrig turns the camera on a host of notable actors including Jane Fonda, Maria Schneider and Juliet Berto as they recount their experiences within the film industry. A compelling cinematic herstory emerges as the prospect of Women’s liberation to alter a patriarchal industry and the society that supports it are considered.
Please join us for a summer drink, a screening and bring suggestions for the autumn sessions reading programme, all welcome.
The Reading Group is supported by Arts Council England and Newcastle University, for further information contact firstname.lastname@example.org
